LED light bar
What is your project about?
The Jeadie Bar is a custom-engineered, high-density LED lighting solution designed for modern home automation. It features 60 individually addressable SK6812/WS2812B nodes on a unique trapezium-shaped PCB. Unlike standard LED strips, this board is a rigid, high-performance module designed to be integrated into custom 3D-printed housings for ergonomic architectural or desk lighting.
Why did you decide to make it?
Off-the-shelf LED strips are often fragile, prone to "voltage drop" issues, and difficult to mount professionally. I wanted a solution that felt like a finished consumer product—something rigid, reliable, and easy to control. I specifically designed the trapezium geometry to facilitate a wider light "throw" while maintaining a sleek, low-profile footprint that fits my custom Onshape CAD housing.
How does it work?
The Brain: An ESP32 D1 Mini running WLED firmware, allowing for seamless Wi-Fi control and instant integration with Home Assistant.
Power Stability: The board features a dedicated 1000?F bulk capacitor to handle large current spikes and a 470Ω data resistor to protect the logic of the first LED node.
RF Optimization: To ensure a rock-solid Wi-Fi connection, I implemented a copper-free "RF Window" in both the 5V and GND planes directly beneath the ESP32 antenna.
Advanced Layout: The PCB utilizes a dual-layer copper pour (5V 'Red Ocean' top / GND floor bottom) to minimize electrical noise and ensure consistent brightness across all 60 nodes.
The Chain: The LEDs are wired in a precise "Snake" daisy-chain, optimized for hand-soldering with extended pads for better thermal management.
note: component U1 (Capacitor) should be mounted horizontally.
