The Wonderful Wizard of Electronics
The Wonderful Wizard of Electronics (WWOE) children’s book by Jeffrey C. Dunnihoo bsed on L. Frank Baum's 1900 Wizard of Oz classic introduces kids to the concept of components working together in a circuit through a delightful Wizard of Oz-inspired adventure. Dorothy shrinks down into the world of a circuit board and meets Ohmie the Resistor, Ellie Dee the LED, and Jay FET the Field Effect Transistor. Together with the wise Wizard (a battery), they learn that individual parts become powerful when connected in a system, and that invisible electric fields and discharges can control how electricity flows.
For the basic incarnation, this JFET + LED PCB Demo Kit brings that exact story to life in the real world.
Just like in the book’s “More to Learn” appendix, children can now safely experiment with the same field effect that Jay FET uses. By waving a finger or a charged object near the gate of the JFET, kids can turn Ellie Dee’s LED on and off — without ever touching the circuit — while Ohmie the resistor keeps everything safe and the Wizard (coin-cell CR2032 battery in his comfy throne socket) powers the magic.
For more advanced techies, the PCB includes a TI MSPM0C1103 microcontroller in a tiny SOT package driving multicolored LEDs that can be programmed to monitor the field detector levels, cycle patterns, brightness and other fun creative projects for the class.
This hands-on kit transforms the story from passive reading into an active discovery, helping children truly understand the basic building blocks of modern electronics in a fun, memorable way.
